“The Man Willing to Stand Alone”
Chosen for his advocacy in policy-making: The Pennsylvania lawmaker has stood alone in the face of adversity to defend the Jewish state in the American Senate. Since 2026, Fetterman has repeatedly emerged as the only Senate Democrat opposed to the efforts made by Congress to restrict the administration's military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The most hawkish Democrat in Congress on Iran
The Jewish Insider, June
In June, four Republicans joined Democrats in an attempt to advance a War Powers Resolution that would further constrain U.S. military action against the Islamic regime in Iran. Fetterman crossed the aisle alone in the opposite direction, with the measure ultimately failing 48-47. To date, Fetterman remains the only Democratic senator to vote against every Iran-related War Powers Resolution brought before the Senate in recent months.
His position remains unequivocal: Iran must not be left with a pathway back to a nuclear weapon. Fetterman even warned President Donald Trump against accepting an agreement that would allow Tehran to retain a stockpile of enriched uranium. Risking political safety, Fetterman challenged antisemitism even within his own political camp at the AJC Global Forum in Washington, in front of 2,000 participants from 70 countries.
Influence is not only the ability to lead a majority. Sometimes, it is the willingness to be the only voice in the room.
In 2026, Fetterman proved that he is willing to be that voice for Israel.
That is why John Fetterman is No. 1 on The 36.
